Football season Kicks Off - Red card/Yellow card
Rank: New forum user
|
Hello All,
So the football season is under way. I have been looking at introducing red/yellow cards for minor and major non-compliance on site. There would be a number of contractors involved over the season (term of contract).
I envisage posting a league table and possibly a fine and ultimate reward _ the Cup at the end of the term.
Has anyone previously used this method, hopefully it will develop a bit of interest (culture) and be used to highlight and mentor. The cards would not be shown excessively but only through necessity. The overall aim is to educate and mentor towards a safe culture.
Any thoughts or examples????

Red, Yellow and Green cards Hugo, can work well if implemented correctly and you get the all important buy-in.
The green one’s for good practices?
Good Luck.

there's been a lot of debate around card systems so might be worth trying to do a search on the forums. My overall impression was that there was more people against the system than for it.
would there not be an issue if one contractor has more employees on the site than another as they are more likely to get issued with cards. Potentially linking it with football might seen to be making light of the issue also you would have to issue a reasonable amount to try and play one contractor off against another for having the best health and safety statistics for the site
i prefer going with education at the time the incident occurs and repeated failure means that person is kicked of site and potentially the contract company. An old company i worked for used to install machines worldwide and one company we dealt with had a very strict H&S policy if you where asked to leave the site then the company you worked for where automatically banned from every site they owned worldwide.
you never struggled to get the PPE you needed on those site in fact they used force every piece of PPE at you they could think off. they always had H&S bods on walkabout and you automatically felt guilty when ever you saw one but it is the fastest site i ever worked on.

We tried this, years ago and got a lot of flak from our HR department as we “were not following agreed disciplinary procedures”. Now we just stare hard at people and complain under our breaths... no wider I have an ulcer.
