Thinking ahead for the winter..
The workshop we use is of a large area and i am told gets very cold in the winter.
I will be providing warm jackets, but the temp will be very cold.
In some cases it will not be practible to wear gloves as they will be operting tools such as nail guns, chop saws etc.
Heating may also be a problem due to fumes and i dont think electrical heaters will make much diffrerence
Though ?

How about partitioning the workshop and heating part of it - especially for using high-vibration tools?

Thats a good idea, but it woulkd still leave a large area with all the required benches and workspaces used with the power tools,
Any other suggestions ?

You can also get industrial gloves that are fingerless, helps to keep the hands warm and allows dexterity. Also, allow for a warm rest area and sufficent breaks for people who getting cold.

Do employees at least have a warm area and are they allowed to take regular breaks out of the cold environment?
The Workplace regs guidance states that The temperature in workrooms should provide reasonable comfort without the need for special clothing. Where such a temperature is impractical because of hot or cold processes, all reasonable steps should be taken to achieve a temperature which is as close as possible to comfortable. ‘Workroom’ means a room where people normally work for more than short periods.
I would do all you can to try and achieve a comfortable temperature using local heating if possible, especially given the use of vibrating tools and the increased risk of ill health due to reduced circulation in cold temperatures

There is an office area for the yard manager there. This is currently not heated but i will provide electric heaters to keep this area warm.
As it stands they are allowed 30 mins at 10.00am and 30 mins at 1.00pm.
I dont think space heaters will make a great deal of difference although i have never experinced how powerful they are. Would fumes not be a concern though ?
The gloves would be a good idea.
So warm clothing, gloves and regular breaks in an warm environment.
Will this be sufficient ?
