Was the proposed deregulation of this (in general terms, excluding COMAH and the like) not the subject of a fairly recent HSE consultation? Check HSE website consultation pages.

i run my own business and i haven't registered with an enforcing authority, i guess it would depend on what your business is and how many you employee. i work from home and as far as i'm aware you just need to let the tax man know. Phil

That's what I was just thinking Phil, although the answers from both enforcing authorities (HSE and Env Health) was no although it's nice for them to know!

Not it is not. It used to be a requirement of the OSR Act 1963 and up until a few years ago we as a local authority would still send registration forms to businesses, but that was done away with. So no need to register with regards to health and safety, but if you're running a food business, obviously that's a different story.
