Today I received an accident report form, where a member of staff injured their back (slight strain) because they misjudged how low the toilet was! Landed with a bump!! Have to admit if it had happened to me I would probably not have bothered reporting it, or made up another excuse! This is a true story, come on there must be more out there!

Difficult one - you have to be encouraged by the fact that minor accidents are being reported, but at the same time questioning why they've bothered! What are your remedial actions then? Adjustable toilet seats to cater for all sizes of user? Next they'll be wanting lumbar support and armrests...

Takes deep breath... Were they "at work" when the incident occurred?

Or were they 'just going through the motions'?

I have been to premises where the toilet was installed first and then floor tiles have been installed afterwards making the toilet seat "lower than normal" due to the raised floor level. If they'd worked it out with a pencil beforehand, it would have made the job a lot easier

Had one where a guy broke his fingers when he caught his hand in a metal noise enclosure When he was asked for his opinion of how he thought we could improve things and stop a repetition his reply was to remove the metal door and replace it with a wooden one. Reasoning being that a wooden door may not have broken his fingers David

About 6 years ago had some one dislocate thier shoulder whilst working in an admin office resulting in 3+days off work. When i enquierd how this happened, it turns out they did it when trying to swat / kill a wasp!

Know of a person putting in a claim for falling off a toilet seat while at work. Apparently the seat worked loose – don’t want to think what he was doing…

Not an accident but I read a thread years ago about using toilets at work. The post that made me laugh our loud was by someone saying he would only do 'No. 2's' during overtime because he loved the idea of being paid double time for it!

Got loads of funnies from our incident reports, some of which we use in training, all suitably anonymised of course: - scratched my four arms - hit head on chester drawers - elevated and dressed myself as first aider - hurt left humorous area - caught fingers in hinges of door, fingers removed by myself - I am the first aider so I gave myself advice - service user was cooking on high heat activating the fire alarm - XXX alleged that fellow client kicked him in the payphone - walked into an undetected shed - XXX slapped another who came into the room on the left side of his face - blood sugar level checked and examined for signs of bruising - noticed a bomb on forehead - chipped upper tooth above right eyebrow and so on.......

I understand that some people can only use this forum at their employers convenience but I would have expected this topic to be on more of a roll on a holiday Friday. Are there none left chained to their desks? I also wonder whether this incident would count as being "on a folly of their own"? Do you think any action will be taken by the employee and if they do will they become a suer? I once knew a chap who always referred to the toilet as "the cistern chapel"! My favourite facilities accident was the employee who was struck on the head when a large spanner fell from a tool belt holster thrown up on the partition wall by the guy in the next cubicle; bad enough but the recommended action was that hard hats be worn at ALL times:) Enjoy the weekend, the sun is shining in the West Country, p48

It is indeed sunny in the WC - Just need to avoid the grockles when driving home and all will be good. I have seen many gooduns but like Hit head on bin... ? Tripped over when walking across the car park, when asked by our form are you trained to carry out the task, they replied yes, I was trained as a child to walk, but no specific training for walking across our car park. I have also seen advice given to myself as I am a first aider, always makes me smile. Roll on the weekend...

Weekend's over in this part of the world and I am back at my desk...reading these comments reminds me of the sprained foot reported by one chap when travelling on business.... had to use a "hole in the ground" toilet in rural Indonesia.... and he literally "put his foot in it" - need I say more? We had to change the travel routes after that one! I figured it was easier than conducting training!
