Anyone know of any guidance relating to the temperature of radiators in public areas. I know that in the guidance for residential care homes the recommended surface contact area is 43C but anyone any idea for other areas. We do not want to fit radiator covers and we do need the temperature to reach a level that heats the building. Any advice welcome Regards FH

Try the Care Commission? Or your local authority environmental health department? A

There is a SIM which may be of use: http://www.hse.gov.uk/lau/lacs/79-4.htm It makes reference to areas where there NOT regular flow of staff. Your risk assessment needs to take account of how long it was likely a vulnerable person could be in direct contact with surfaces greater than 43 deg C (eg falling against them or being trapped behind pipes etc). ie can you manage the risks in public areas of hot surfaces >43 deg C.
