Hi,
I would be grateful if somebody could point me in the right direction to find out the following:
Is there is any legal requirement/guidance for the amount of disabled vehicle parking spaces versus the amount of car park spaces in parking areas?
Regards,
Stuart

Last time I did a DDA audit, disable parking spaces there must be 1.5% of total parking spaces made available for parking
Then again I stand to be corrected as it was four years ago

Institute of Highways and Transportation's Guidance recently stipulated:
(a) for car parks serving shopping or recreational areas and places open to the general public:
with up to 200 spaces : 6% subject to a minimum of 3 spaces
with over 200 spaces : 4% plus 4 spaces
(b) for car parks serving employment premises:
with up to 200 spaces : 5% subject to a minimum of 2 spaces
with over 200 spaces : 2% plus 6 spaces
(the above provision is to be reserved for visitors with disabilities and any employees with disabilities should have additional reserved spaces within the car park).
You could check with them to confirm this is current standard.

Ron has it spot on and up to date from my last research a couple of months ago. It should not be used for reserve visitor parking or even director parking because it is raining etc. Believe me it happens
