Hi all
Just a quick line to see if anyone can point me in the direction where to get more info, other than companies advertising their services, on what accreditation of 14001 incoorporates and what procedures must be adhered to to get this accreditation. I,m totally unfamiliar with the accreditation, but we have a new H&S director starting at the end of the month and this is his first main objective, gaining accreditation, so I would like to familiarise myself with the process before then
cheers A

Hi Andy,
The first thing to do is to get hold of a copy of the 14001 standard (14002 will also help). This will contain details of the procedures you will need. I would then suggest carrying out a gap analysis to see what you already have in place. Depending on your industry I would strongly advise getting outside help if you are unfamiliar with the 14001 management system.

It’s the environmental standard, you can download it off the web. Or send me a PM and I’ll forward a copy over to you.

I just did a search by putting in ‘14001 free download’ although I also have copies supplied to me from recognised UKAS accredited organisations.

There is no such thing as achieving accreditation, its achieving "certification" to whichever standard, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, et al............!
Only certification bodies are permited accreditation by UKAS or whatever the appropriate body may be in that particular country!
Put simply it means these companies are accredited to certify appropriate management systems hence "certification"
As for supplying relevant copies of standards, these are subject to copyright laws.

Lexyboy, you are correct in the terminology of certification. However, stating that only bodies accredited by UKAS is not correct. I and others are aware of many bodies that self-certificate these standards. Some of these companies are multi-million pound organisations, I’m not going to name them on this forum though.
In terms of copyright, if you have permission to supply then you would not be breaching copyright.
