Hi any construction types out there, i work for a construction company who develop new build etc. My question is regarding Trad decking or Rhino decking which is used as a crash deck/acess platform to enable work from height to be carried out within roof trusses etc. As with scaffold there is a handover certificate and only trained and competant person(s) can erect after 7 day period it falls woithin the scaff registers for inspection. The decking system is installed by individuals which correct me if im wrong has no training reuirement (pasma etc) the decking is installed to the manufacturers specifaction with no handover certificate unlike scaffold It seems unless anyone else could throw some light on it a "grey area"

The 'Hand Over' certificate only states that the access equipment has been erected in accordance with specifications and legislation, it does not say its an inspection report. indeed the ones I have seen state that the user must inspect it before use, this inspection is recorded. Any installation of any component must be carried out by a competent person, are the individuals competent, its not rocket science to lay it correctly and if then inspected by a competent person should not pose a problem?

The new NASC cewrtificte does require the scaffolder to detail any non compliance with the WAH regs and certifies that client requirements have been met. Thus any deviation from either the WAH regs or TG20 or the BS12811 (as required by the client one would hope) should be clearly stated by the scaffolder at handover. I take the view that initial inspection should be written into any contract for scaffold or similar Bob
