I am currently in the process of purchasing and training our first aiders in the use of an AED and emergency oxygen. However while preparing the documentation for the introduction of the AED I am not sure if I should tell our neighbours we have it. On the Positive Side - we could save a life! On the Negative Side - Insurance and Liability (not our employees, visitors or a MEP on our site) Does anyone have any experience of the controls for AED's and Emergency Oxygen? Our company is very community minded but I am unsure around AED's Any advise? Richard

I would be inclined to share the AED, you will appreciate that it can only apply a shock when the patient is in fibrilation so it is safe. Not sure about the oxygen though, I have no experience there but I would have thought that oxygen in the wrong hands, especially with a sparky AED in the area, could produce undesirable results.

I'd tell them you've got it, and invite them to send their first aiders on the same training course as yours are doing (and share the training cost, of course!). Then have some form of agreement where a trained operator from either organisation can be called to a point of need in either organisation. Like M, I'm a bit more wary about medical gasses - with a modern AED the only way you can make someone's condition worse is to hit them with it, so there can't be any harm in sharing it. O2 etc is a bit more risky...
