PAT testing - training for "Formal Visual Inspection"

Can I please be advised exactly what training is required to achieve competency for this stage in the management of portable appliances. Contact details for trainers will then be useful; I am looking for someone operating in the South London area. Many thanks

Depends what you mean by management?
If you work for a company and/or you need to someone to simply look after a database of equipment information and to organise for a nice chap or chapess to come round and do the actual PAT - If the person is not making any technical judgements etc, then training is very limited I would think.
Read the HSE guidance book/leaflets/website etc so the general requirements & reasoning are understood
Know who to contact for the PAT
Be computer literate to run a database - if not provided by the PAT people
Understand your own procedure for issuing/withdrawing equipment from use
Now standby for the various overboard geeky responses

I posted a similar query on 24th June "Formal Visual Examination of Electrical Appliances". Thread may be worth reading.

Wolfie,
Perhaps it may be just as well putting your personnel through the C&G PAT training?
That way you could use this towards proof of competence for the inspection personnel.
It would also explain how the IET system works.
It is NOT just an annual check!
