Every time we work at height whereby we wear a harness as rescue plan is in place, typically in a MEWP When working on a roof with full edge protection and no harness being worn is this still the case I believe not but would ask for the advice from the forum

I guess the common one we think of when working at height is from suspension tumour if someone is left dangling in their harness for to long so a rescue plan is required. equally what happens if someone collapses at height they may not be at risk of falling over the edge but you still need some plan of getting medical help to them. it may be a case of climbing up scaffolding or a ladder so no major issue. I guess you have to keep asking yourself what if? until the point the event is very unlikely to take place. Phil

On a slight tangent, do make sure the roof maintenance activity is covered within the emergency evacuation procedures for the building. Alarm sounders aren't always audible, particularly in windy days. Ah the joys of the assembled throngs from 5 floors of office space at the assembly points in the car park.......watching the guys up there working on the roof!

Alan, you would need a rescue plan where the work involves the risk of being left dangling in a harness because of the danger of what PhilBeal calls "suspension tumour" (presumably truama). You will need an evacuation plan in any case, whether or not the WAH involves the use of harnesses, and the evacuation plan should include arrangements for evacuating people from MEWP's.

Thanks for that bigrab indeed trauma, it doesn't always pay to let spell checker do what it wants especially when you suffer from fat fingers. Phil
