Hi guys and girls, could you share with me what was your most memorable conference or training event you attended? What type of event was it, i.e. other than a presentation. Need ideas for organizing an IOSH seminar/conference. thanks

On a management course - a team building event Group was split into 3 groups - 'managed' to include contrasting personalities in each group! First group given a minimum of bits and pieces and a fresh egg. String, sellotape, bits of wood, sheets of paper, paperclips, rulers, drawing pins etc. Task was to get egg safely from desk height to a point across the floor without touching it. A plan was "hatched" and implemented by team 1 while everyone else watched. Before there was much progress, team 2 took over, and later on team 3. Predictably, problems arose because of team dynamics, lack of a clear plan, failure to brief the next team and hand over responsibility in an effective way. Plans kept changing, no coherent policy, too many cooks etc, and a lot of broken eggs! Great way to start management discussions, with a dramatic example of team dynamics, management control, communication etc and all of the problems we see on a day to day basis. Applies at every level. I remember well how much fun it was, and how effective. Used it myself many times since, always with good result.
