Afternoon Meleady, At a previous company I worked to avoid the need for winter gritting as it is quite hard to predict and can change in a few hours we decided to use sub-surface heating 4" below the car park and paths provided by a 1" steam line. Though this sounds energy inneficient we used heat generated from degassing of biological wastes generated on site (offices and factory setting) to power a small boiler and enclosed steam system with appropriate traps and knockouts to prevent water condensing and causing pipework hammer. Though this energy was free the quality and quantity we found varied but we improved it upon making certain recommendations to the cafeteria onsite, there will be a small cost involved in the laying of the pipework though. There may be more suitable examples of prevention and assessments on the forum from last winter available from using the search function, I recall it was quite a hot topic! These forecasts and provision of gritting services are often supplied by external companies, you may be able to find one local to your area. Des
