When checking our asbestos roof (cement Boards) we had a look at the lead work from old to new roof the lead is hanging out. This means that I need to access the roof, there are skylights which we can see from the roof but we can not look from underneath as there is insulation applied to the inside of the roof. The roof is pitched and we need to access from both sides, I have a scissor lift on site for the cladding works and an aluminium tower, as we need to repair both sides of the pitch we will utilise the edge protection on one side from the scissor lift and use the mobile tower for access and edge protection. I intend to use youngerman boards to access both sides of the roof with hand rail placed on the right hand side as this leads to the fragile bit and the lead is on the left. I do have concerns though that this roofing material has been there a long time so how will I be sure it will take the weight of a youngerman board plus operative. I have looked at highering a cherry picker but can not get to area without hanging out of picker. I can only see independent scaffold to complete this job but the expense for a small job I need to think of alternative methods. That's were you come in any alternatives would be great Cheers Alan

Alan, do you mind if i ask if you are planning to use the mobile tower for access to actually climb on to the roof area? If so, the mobile tower is a work platform, not a piece of access equipment which you can use to climb up and get off it at height. Also, do you think the mobile tower would stop somebody falling if used as edge protection? I don't.

Alan Just to back up Frankc, you can not use the tower to access the roof unless it was access scaffold. You will need to install guardrails to the roof edge. Can you install collective measures such as safety netting from inside.
