Dear all
Sorry to spread doom and gloom...but i will anyway,
A heavy winter pending no doubt, snow ice etc all the usual trimmings
what are your thoughts on attendance of journeys to work during inclemant dangerous conditions?
should a good considerate employer allow employees to remain home on full pay (and work from home) or should they deduct monies from pay?
in your experience how have you gone about things?
again this should reflect in the policy and risk assessment
Cheers
Dave

I'll tell you what we do. People who don't have to travel are instructed not to, unless and until they can set off with a reasonable chance of getting to where they're going safely. Working from home is an option for some of our workers. Our Charity shops don't open if the weather is too bad. The Healthcare and Homecare facilities have to operate, and we have Business Continuity Arrangements in place, involving car pools where people with 4x4s and even tractors (we have rural locations) offer to pick colleagues up etc. A lot of our homecarers will walk to calls if they can, rather than try and drive.
If people really can't get in, or claim that they can't, we ask them to take the missed time as leave unless there are other extenuating circumstances like an enhanced care requirement for a sick relative,
John
