Hi Guys, Is there a basic acceptable level of training required for staff to use Oxy-acty welding/cutting sets and TIG welding units? We have permanent contractors on site doing these jobs and some of our own fitters are authorised to the works as well but it doesn't appear they have any formal training completed. Thanks

Hi, Not sure of your industry, however for our engineers brazing copper pipework in our industry (refrigeration and air conditioning) our engineers have either BRA level 3 Brazing Certificate or CITB Brazing Certificate Hope this helps

Thanks Trevor, We are are in food manufacturing and have the requirement for TIG welding stainless steel as well as some use of oxy-act. Majority of work is done by 3rd Party contractor but some is completed by our in house maintenance team

You could either look at sending them on a training course either run by colleges or other training centres which offers some proof of training or get and experienced qualified welder to carry out some form of assessment on your own welders, to show competence and look at running a tool box talk on safety considerations when using such equipment as well as including your own companies procedures for the use and storage of the equipment. City and Guilds do a few levels for welding competency C&G 3268 level 1 Introductory to welding skills C&G 3268 level 2 Welding skills They do these units for MIG, TIG, O/A, and MMA welding I would look for a level 2 qualification minimum
