Does anybody have any experience/knowledge of the standards/specifications PPE must comply with within Russia? Do Russia have their own PPE standard requirements or do they require that PPE must comply with the European Standards? Initially I am looking to ensure that any safety helmets, hi-vis clothing, safety footwear, light eye protection and hand protection that we procure for our staff to visit sites is compliant with local country requirements (in addition to our existing Corporate requirements). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

i would say the best thing to do is to contact the company you are dealing with / working with in Russia. however British Standards are some of the best around so i can't see another country require a higher standard to be able to work on their site. From previous work experience in different countries PPE and H&S is something never heard off let alone followed. I would say the requirements we have over here should meet that of most countries around the world, make sure you take sufficient PPE with you as it may not exist elsewhere. If you have not luck with help form the company you are working with in Russia then just send them a list of what your employees will be using as PPE whilst working out there that way they can't say there weren't aware beforehand. I remember reading that Russia has the most stringent H&S laws in Europe although enforcement is very variable and subject to the local market economy. You may find that a CE mark is not recognised but best advice is as above: speak to your local contacts.
