Assessments and SSOW's in special educational needs

I am needing to help the faculty leader create the H+S system within a special educational needs section of a secondary level school which is also the designated the autistic/aspergers establishment for the city.
I am thinking that this will be more safe systems of work than risk assessments but has anyone experience of this situation which may be helpful?
My thanks for any assistance.

The people with real experience are those teaching & supporting these people on daily basis.
How was this "need to help" you speak of identified?
General resources available via teachernet, e.g. SEN Code of Practice.

SSOW can be seen as the overall management system broken up into parts of which risk assessment is but 1 and written systems of work e.g. method statements, guidance notes, policies are other parts noting that, in my opinion, RA's with the policy form the foundation for all areas
The H&S management system for employees and similar sould be no different from others - the children will have their own system - both of which form the overall system
Have you worked in schools / special schools before as if not there is lots to learn e.g. specialist law etc

Thank you for yuor replies. No i have not worked in education previously though this is a mainstream school with an SEN department. You are certainly correct there is a lot to learn but makes it more interesting but quite tiring.
i will be discussing the requirements at length with the SEN department and I have suggested that the three SEN depts in the academies I cover get together to pool thoughts and learn together to put in the systems and procedures to reduce the risks.
It is interesting that none of the teaching staff I have encountered have any effective knowledge of the practical implementation of health and safety in their environment but they have all been willing to listen and respond, this does bode well for the work ahead to implement a whole system in all three places starting effectively from scratch.
my thanks for your comments.
