Have any IOSH members recently became or applied to become an approved provider of the CITB/Construction Skills Courses, SMSTS and SSSTS?

I've sent of an email to the CITB about what is involved in becoming an approved provider but yet to hear back from them, could you tell me what was involved when you applied? Thanks Martin

It depends on what licence you are looking to purchase; your training/teaching qualifiactions and your H&S qualifications.

I'd be looking to deliver, the three courses; SMSTS, SSSTS & the refresher course. I thought they'd be looking at; h&s qualifications, construction experience & teaching experience but not sure what levels they'd be looking for, I can't find anything on their website

It's all explained in the application form. PM me if you need the specifics.

You will need competent approved trainers and PTLLS is a mandatory requirement plus having completed the SMSTS course with another provider. This is the most onerous part of the accreditation in many ways as the citb are quite sticky over their approved trainers. Bob

So in addition to h&s qualifications, construction experience & teaching experience, I'll need to complete a Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector qualification?

I am afraid so as they have been known to turn down BEds even with the remaining skills. Try them by all means though. Bob

CITB will request PTLLS trainers, this was enforced from Jan 2010. They require the NEBOSH CONSTRUCTION CERT or DIPLOMA and experience within construction mainly being hands on experience as well. Additionally you need to have undergone the SMSTS course itself and this generally satisfies their requirements. To renew each year is a lot easier and you also may have the potential to get an assessment visit when training. If you are requrining to become a centre to train as you need to register as a tutor to a centre then other requriements come into this. Regards Karel
