A situation has arisen where a number of operators have been provided ITSSAR accredited training on a BITA group A5 Pedestrian Pallet stacker forklift which also has a platform that can be lowered to enable it to be rider operated. The equipment has a standard tiller arm with standard controls and stacks to just under 3 metres. If they have received appropriate training on this, would this be adequate for the operation of a BITA group A2 Rider operated lift truck which has almost identical controls and is virtually the same in every respect other than the fact that it only lifts pallets approx 100mm off the ground rather than the 3 metres the A5 lift truck is capable of? Also can training using the A5 machine be tailored to suit the specific operations of an A2 for the purposes of certification.

I would imagine consulting your approved training provider would be the best course of action on this one. If both trucks are similar, you may find that a very short familiarisation session may be appropriate for the already certified A5 drivers.
