We will be needing to ship low quantities of a substance that is intrinsically safe until it gets wet at which point it may release hydrogen sulphide gas. Our intention is to seal the cannister in a water tight and robust container then have a parcel shifter (UPS, Fedex etc) to the carrying. I am having trouble determining what classification, if any, to put it under in the ADR regs.
Has anyone any experience of this?

Check the SDS under "transport" to see get all the information you can, I believe your class is 4.3, you need your packing group, check in the orange book to identify packing instructions....which should also give you details as to the labelling you need and whether it has any limited quantities.

Hi Safety Girl, thanks for the response. I have considered 4.3 but the substance is not 'flammable when wet' it is 'just' very toxic. I will have a look at the orange book as you have suggested. Another problem is that we do not have an SDS because it is a substance that we create ourselves, I have chemists looking at creating an SDS because we are going to need that whatever we classify it as.
