One of our actions raised during our recent Legionellosis Management & Risk Control Inspection was to appoint and instruct a 'responsible person' to ensure correct Management and Control of the risk of Legionellosis.
Our site is small with about 100 employees comprising of 50/50 split of office space and workshop (including a small machine shop).
I don't think sending people on 'Legionellosis Management' Control course would really be of much benefit, the levels of risk are quite low.
Can anyone point me in the direction of some material I could use to provide 'awareness' training, to the person to be responsible for the management of legionellosis risk.

Richard,
In a similar scenario as you describe, the company supplying the Biocides and Inhibitors for our cooling towers also undertook the monthly checks. In the interim periods, said company gave us basic training to perform tasks such as dip slide testing and interpretation. These were also sent to the company for proper analysis.
Any issues with the Biocide / Inhibitor feed system - said company would also take care of!
That was our system of management, it worked!

HSE books do a DVD "Control of Legionella" its about £20 + vat.
I found this a good starting point along with the ACOP.

Richard, you're correct L8 ACoP requires an "appointed person" to be identified, however I don't believe there is anything in principle to prevent you nominating the Contractor (similar to outsourcing of competent persons) - with his agreement of course.
(Bear in mind the wide legal definition of the word "person")
Otherwise, many of the water treatment companies provide (excellent) briefings and awareness sessions - why not ask them?
