Hello all. I am looking into getting some training for our staff to be able to use tower scaffolds. I have looked at providers and some offer 1 day IPAF accredited training and some provide a certificate of attendance and is half a day. Is there a requirement for scaffold tower erection to be IPAF accreditation or does a certificate of attendance suffice. Many Thanks for your help as I find this confusing!!

Clegg, It will be PASMA accredited training that you will want not IPAF. IPAF deal with powered access such as booms, scissor lifts etc. PASMA training for tower scaffold is one day or so I believe for the basic course. Regards Yul

Sorry I meant PASMA. I have been looking at IPAF training for Cherry pickers and getting mixed up.

PASMA is the benchmark in the industry regarding mobile towers and is an excellent qualification as it is recognised on any site in the UK and it is not given out freely. There is a written test and a practical one and the delegate has to pass them both. However, PASMA it is not a legal requirement. Mobile tower training certainly is if your workforce are assembling, dismantling or moving towers. It's up to you or the requirements of your clients what level of training you pay for.

One of our clients (a member of UKCG) is now insisting that anyone using/working on a tower scaffold must be PASMA trained.
