Demolition is treated the same as all other construction work, notifiable only if the work lasts longer than 30 days or 500 person days of construction work. However, Regulation 29 requires a written plan to be prepared before work starts detailing the arrangements for all demolition.
In simple terms the plan must detail the arrangements for how demolition work will be carried out and must be prepared before demolition or dismantling work begins. This applies to all demolition work regardless of size, duration or if the project is notifiable or not.
Demolition means the deliberate pulling down, destruction or taking apart of a structure, or a substantial part of a structure. Similarly, dismantling will be considered to be the taking down or taking apart of all, or a substantial part of a structure (refer to the ACoP).
NB. You may also wish to address if a Section80 is required from the Local Authority before any work commences.

I believe that 'demolition' comes under the CDM definition of 'construction' (if that isn't a contradiction) and therefore, normal notification rules apply i.e. 30 days or 500 person days.
