I'm about to embark on the implementation of OHSAS 18001 (as part of an integrated management system with quality & environment). Before getting too deep into this I'll be getting some specific training, but in the meantime, could anyone offer some tips about common pitfalls to avoid? Thanks in advance

Im sure some more experienced advice will come your way, but a very good auditor I know says the biggest pitfalls companies fall into when embarking on the process is trying to put the management system into place too quickly with insufficient communication and time for employees to really buy-in to the process. In other words too much top down and not enough bottom up!

I agree with guru. Additionally, when it comes to objectives and targets, don't try and change the world in six months!! They are your targets and you set the timescales...

Make sure that all proceduress are worded for common use across all systems - Dont end up with say a separate audit, or documentation, or risk assessment etc proocedures Bob
