I have graduated with a degree in BSc Construction Project management a year ago, I want to enter the H&S profession as I have knowledge of this area through studying my degree, I want to specialise in H&S. I intend to Study the National Diploma In OHS level 6. Is it worth coming into the industry and will I be able to find any H&S roles, as I have no company experience being a graduate. Or are prospects bleak in regards to the H&S industry? Cheers.

Hi Dilly as you have noticed on this forum these are difficult times for H&S with Construction suffering mostly over the last 2 years with at present no light at the end of the tunnel. Always keep all options open until the climate improves, and good luck.

i would reccommend staying with your construction Project Management role (assuming you are employed) for the time being, get some work and management experience under your belt before making the jump into H&S. it will make you a much better H&S manager which will pay dividends in the long term.

You will gain a lot of H&S experience from the Project Manager Role. Stick to it for a while, perhaps take the NEBOSH general cert for the time being and then move onto the Diploma 6 after some life experience. My husband is also a Project Manager in construction and is greatly involved in H&S initiatives within the company he has been asked to help with a forthcoming Safety seminar. Offer to help your Safety Officers in campaigns etc.. it goes far...
