Can anyone help me out pls. i hold a National Diploma and i am a Graduate member of IOSH. I am finding it difficult to secure employment. Only God knows the number of applications i have made in the past seven (7) months and all come back with 'YOU HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL AT THIS TIME'.They all want UK experience, where do i get the experience from if i do not get employed? I have now become a support worker just to keep body and soul together. I need help fast.

This may not be what you want to hear but all the qualifications in the world will not get you anywhere without occupational experience. Consider turning you career path on it's head for a while. Which field interests you? Apply for a role that will give you experience in the general field that you can then apply your quals to. Taking a back seat for a couple of years to gain some basic experience will open more doors than shoving CV's through letterboxes.

As Plant says, qualifications are great, but you really need to get practical experience in. My advice, is do a bit of research and get the names of companies around your area and phone them up volunteering your services in assisting their safety dept. Good luck.

Why don't you volunteer for H&S related duties as a support worker? Or help out a charity with their H&S needs?

Tok, one way around your dilema is to do what I did many years ago and that was to take up a dual role. My main role within the company was Facilities Technical Services Manager and to gain experience in the field of Occupational Safety and Health I requested that I covered Health and Safety matters as well. After four or five of years of experience under my belt I slowely migrated over into Health and Safety full time then the doors started to open one by one. I know it's very hard for you Tok and I know how you are feeling right now, down right frustrated. Please stick at it, don't lose hope. Review your CV and covering letter and make them both specific for the role you are applying for. Good luck my friend.
