Does anyone know if its true that hard hat signs have to change when new legislation will be coming in (pictorgrame has side profile rather than full frontal)
I have been told that The health and safety sign changes are coming into affect as from 17.1.11 – and we have 5 years to bring everything inline .
Is this true and does anyone know of any other changes? eg fire signs etc
Cheers
There are a few changes, I should have a full list within the next week.
I will highlight anything I know you have and you can make a judgment call on whether they need replacing or whether they will be obsolete before the 5 year deadline.

Safety signs are changing from our recognised BS 5499 symbols to the new ISO 7010 symbols (the example you cited of the hard hat changing from a face-on to side-on view would therfore be correct). The vast majority of signs are still based on the BS versions but may see minor tweaks to ensure all symbols are consistent amongst all producers of safety signs across the EU - essentially removing any confusion about the meaning of a symbol.
The intention is that ISO 7010 will become EN 7010 but as yet there is no confirmation of dates and it is unlikely in my opinion that people will be expected to replace existing signage with new ones.
I have some details and links regarding the change which I will forward on to you by PM.

Didn't we have a similar issue with fire safety signage between BS and EN types? I recall there was advice (not a requirement) not to mix the types but in practice it didn't matter to enforcement unless there was a significant risk of confusion.
No doubt suppliers will be touting this as 'requirement' to drum up more business. Fair enough the manufacturers will all have to do so to the standard but I can't see any sense in taking perfectly adequate signs down for the sake of it. No doubt every government department will do this just as they do when they 'rebrand' every few years - and they wonder where the money goes!!
Some may want to do it if they have a high proportion of migrant workers but for the average business it RA again. Worst case is likely to be 'advice' from an enforcer. It would be a serious risk or a jobsworth that would find reason for an IN. I'd say leave them unless they need replacement or you are making other changes like relocation (Don't unscrew and take the old ones!!) We used to!!

Although the new BS ISO 7100 and eventually BS EN ISO 7100 will have subtle differences, I very much doubt that it will be retrospective in context of the Health and Safety Signs & Signals Regs or RRFSO.
Obviously, the organisations that market/sell such products may publicide that as such!
