Morning all,
I work for a large multi utility and we are having real problems re the use of tuffbooks in vehicles.
The current safe system of work relies on the operator sitting in the passenger seat and using the tuff book, however during assessments of the working practises many operators state that they are often in high risk areas, many have been threatened or attacked and will only use their tuffbook in the drivers seat in case of the need to make a sharp exit.
Has anyone else had a similar issue or have a solution that has been put into practise successfully?
Thanks.

Hi Matrix
Apart from ensuring they use the equipment in visible areas and not back roads/side streets, I can not see how you would get around this!!
Try to make sure they are not lone working, security of vehicles (slam locks etc), panic alarm or personal alarm etc etc

Presumably these threatening behaviours and attacks are being reported and recorded and this is something management are aware of? Or is this an 'excuse' for not following the safe system?
I'm aware of one of the major gas utilities enabling use from the driver's seat by way of an interlocked arm arrangement - the arm (to which the laptop/tuffbook was firmly secured) could not be operated unless the ignition was off and the vehicle could not be started unless the kit was properly stowed away.
Not that that would be particularly helpful with a quick getaway mind........
