Is there any standard referring to the electrical wiring color codes? What is the color coding followed in UK?
I came across a question as to whether stranded wires can be used instead of solid wires for 220V/240V application? If so, why?
Any help

The IEE Wiring Regulations BS 7671 are the UK standard to which all industrial and domestic wiring must conform. The 17th edition IEE Wiring Regulations has many changes in order to comply with European documents.
The IEE Wiring Regulations are produced by the IET, fully known as the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
The 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671) became effective on 1st July 2008. Since then all commercial, domestic and industrial wiring installations must be designed to the specification laid out in BS7671: 2008 this Edition takes over from the 16th Edition which came into force in 1991.

prads,
juls is correct wrt colour coding of fixed installs machinery etc. which does not com eunder bs7671 is different.
Your question wrt stranded/solid really has nothing to do with colour codes.
Solid wires are only suitable for fixed wiring installs, nothing to do with machinery (unless very small) as the vibrations can "kill" them.
Please ask more or give more info & we can help further.

You quote BS 7671 as if it some absolute legal requirement to comply and unfortunately ITS NOT.
British Standards are just that they are standards or guidance - very good guidance I grant you and I am not suggesting that you ignore them, but please remember the Law is contained in Act and Regulations that pass through Parliament. The IEE regulations as you have correctly stated are produced by the IET not the legal process in this country.
