We have a few sites whereby we have scaffolding as means of access, we need to get these checked and certified every week (contractor comes to site weekly to inspect and record)
We have site managers either permanently on site or visit a couple of times a week or we will have working supervisor based on site
My query is:
What training can I get for the supervisors and/or site managers to be able to check the scaffolding and issue certificate that will suffice both ourselves and the main contractors.

I am not after designed scaffold just the likes of Haki stair cases.

Cheers

Alan

Hi Alan

I have done the Scaffold Inspection Training Scheme (SITS) CISRS (basic Scaffold Inspection) which allows me to inspect and sign basic scaffold.

This was done at the National Construction College

Hi Simon

I have done this course
I am led to believe this is not accepted by the main contractor

Alan,

Ask your main contractor what other courses there are out there?

Their main gripe may be to do with the scaffolding you use - the SITS course for some reason is mainly tube & fitting. Although in my opinion if you can inspect a T&F structure you can inspect a system.

Indeed the two day Scaffold inspection course gives you tools to conduct a scaffold inspection but if you feel you are not competent, or feel unsure then don't even attempt to inspect. Get a competent scaffold inspector perhaps from the scaffold company who originally erected the arrangement to inspect upon your behalf, it's an extra cost I know but worth it. Don't forget to get the scafftag signed and dated plus enter the details onto the scaffold inspection register.

One needs to ask the question, are you competent enough following the two day course to inspect a complex scaffolding on a bridge such as on the Forth Rail bridge or even over a busy motorway, food for thought there eh?
