Terry556, you need to think about the Aspects register as being very similar to your risk register for the business. Look at all the things that can cause harm to the environment from the activities undertaken. These are the business aspects. The detriment these cause on the environment are classified as the impacts. Hope this helps.

Have a look at this example I found off the Internet. As well as the aspects, you will need to look at the impacts too.

Motorheads link is very good in terms of a strategic example of a aspects and impacts register, however you would maybe consider a secondary tier given you are in construction and you will, i presume, be multi sites. Each site will need an aspects/impacts register to pick up local issues that cannot be seen by a strategic view point. Also beware of obligations introduce from left feild a good examples for you in contruction that would not be normally part of the EMS

Environmental obligations that are conditions of planning consents.
Environmental obligations picked up in contracts from clients
Environmental obligations picked up through CDM interactions.

In other words as a construction operator you can end up being integrated into managing others environmental obligations that become contractually or legally yours.
