I have a prospective offer of employment with a company which acts as a regulatory authority for an island. The position is to head the OHS, Env, Security & Logistics department. I have some background on HSSE, but logistics management is a new field to me.

Can someone advise or share some info on Logistics planning & management. I know its not rocket science , but would like to do it more professionally. Unfortunately, this is a new task that this company has taken over. It was previously delegated to individual developers who were involved in developing the island.

Any help would be appreciated.

It could depend upon the type of "logistics" activity-as it has a very wide remit.

There is a professional body, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport -CILT(UK) .

I would say that logistics is a 'rocket science' so I would read up and then read some more - if your role is to head that area any failure in delivery or wrong delivery etc will sit at your door. If your role is to support that area as a H&S etc person then its just as any other H&S etc role [but U should still read up!]

NB: If the organisation is as U say; an authority the 'accountability' will be less than [in my personal opinion] it would be in a private company - it should not be but its a fact as authorities get away with all sorts that a private Co would not!

Start with HSG 76, HSG 136 & L117 ... add a lot of what you already know and you're on you're way.

... but! That's just the outline, depending on the specifics, you'll need to get close to those operations.
