Just trying to understand and gain further information on ISO 7010 becoming Pr EN 7010 For safety Signs in the workplace.

Whilst it is still being formualted I would like to know if anyone has any further guidance and information on the possible new signage?

What I know so far is that in the late seventies we established BS 5499-Fire Safety Signs, Notices and Graphic Symbols, additionally ISO 3864 Safety Colours and Safety Signs was published.

In 1998 the EC Directive 92/58/EEC; (based on ISO 3864) was issued, the UK implemented this in the form of the "Health & Safety (Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996.

Due to the vagueness of the standard the ISO updated their own standards and so, using BS 5499 as a basis, ISO 3864 was divided into two sections or parts:

ISO 3864:2002 - defined the shape and colours, as before.
ISO 7010:2003 - defined the pictograms.

As the Pr EN 7010 is decreed then it will become law.

My questions are (if anyone knows?):-

Will that mean the current Health & safety (Signs & Signals) regualtions be amended in the near future?
What changes are we likely to see in either format or pictogram changes?

Hope somebody has their finger on the pulse with this one??

I can only assume that the Health & safety (Signs & Signals) regualtions will be updated - as for when, who knows? In truth even the current version (based on BS 5499) is dated with incorrect images etc.

I will send you a PM with a link to a digital catalogue. All signs within it show the new ISO 7010 versions so will be able to help you see what has changed ata glance.

The biggest thing to consider is the EC Directive (92/58/EEC) fire exit signs which have been replaced by the ISO 7010 version - you can see details relating to this on page 14 of the catalogue.
