Good morning
I am hoping that someone may be able to reassure me and my team - we currently have mobile equipment in Japan which will return to the UK at sometime and there is concern with regard to radiation contamination. The equipment may have been near the exclusion zone around the nuclear plant. My instinct is that shipping agents will not transport anything at risk and our customer should ensure safety before transport but I was hoping someone may have some further expert knowledge to assist in this query - there is little specific informaiton on a Google search
Thanks in advance

To reassure yourself, you can always get someone to swab the surfaces down and check for radiation with a geiger counter.

From what has been reported the increased radiation levels outside of the actual reactor site are low. It is unlikely that they will be any significant contamination of any equipment just because it had been in Japan. If you are worried it is relatively straight forward to have the stuff tested.

Goods arriving at UK ports are automatically monitored for radiation regardless of their origin. The monitoring equipment is very sensitive and detects a surprising amount of naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) in a wide range of goods and equipment. In the unlikely event that your equipment is contaminated and finds it's way back to the UK it should get no further than the port of entry.
