As our IT aren't based onsite i've just spent 3 hours in our server room trying to fix our systems and they still won't work. No fun at all...

I think it got filed under F then lost. To be honest people see themselves as too busy to have fun or even enjoy what they are doing.

Richard I feel your pain as I have spent most of this week carrying out the very same task but the weekend will soon be here and I will be on the way to London with Tartan Army for Brazil game. plenty risk and safety phrases this weekend. We'll be coming, we'll be coming!!!!

They gradually disappeared as they changed to the new forum.
IMO:
People have always been busy so that's no excuse
Forum moderation stricter
People more 'sensitive'
Some of the old crowd disappeared form the forum for various reasons
'Tis a sad sign of the times on this forum that the friday humour threads have disappeared :-(

Well my Friday has been spent trawling through hundreds of MSDS's and COSHH assessments.
Where did I place those Prozac's again?

To say that Moderation has killed the Friday funny is about as true as to say that health and safety law has banned hanging baskets.
We rarely removed them (unless in really poor taste), although we did sometimes terminate them early the following week since, by definition, it was no longer Friday.

Guys,
Maybe it's just that our fraternity have had their 'spirit' squashed due to the current economic doom!

My Daffodils have flowered, the grass is growing the buds on my trees are getting bigger, the birds are singing, everything in the garden is coming to life again!
It has been a long, long winter, lets all come out of the gloom together and celebrate spring and summer!!
Now I guarantee someone will moan because they suffer from Hay Fever!! Such is life...................

Not "fun" but a welcome break from the norm, can I recommend the ironically named video
Asbestos - A matter of time
For those lucky enough to have unmoderated internet access. Amazing, unbelievable, educational (questionably) and worrying all in one go. Not bad for youtube.

I'm with you F1 qualifying in the morning and then a Home Game for my Football team in the afternoon so full of hope and optimism at the moment - Sunday could be another matter though!

The Friday fun is at my house. Finished a grueling months work early. Gone home. The family's there, the suns out, playing with the kids.
Doesn't get better than that.
Have a good weekend everyone.

hmmmmm......I think everyone seems to be missing the point here. It's not about whether you are having a fun Friday but the fact that there used to be a humourous thread on Fridays - the only time we were ever allowed to have a non-health and safety related thread. Or sometimes it just evolved from another thread going off on a tangent just becuase it was Friday.
Mod 2 - I think you are being a touch over defensive here. I never said that over-moderation was the sole cause. I gave several points that may have contributed to the demise of the Friday thread but you seem to have picked up on just one of the points made. And in the wrong context. I was actually meaning that with a generally (perceived) heavier moderation than previously some may feel less inclined to stary from the path. Not that the Friday threads were over moderated. But it was only one of several suggestions. No need to jump in with both feet about it.
Personally I think that the forum has generally had a sense of humour bypass in recent times. With a few notable exceptions.

Stuie, I'm thinking hard. will get back to you.
Yoss - you know where your screen name comes from, does everyone else ?
"You have to be mad to do this job. the only way to get out of it is to plead insanity. Getting out of this job is the sanest thing anyone can do. So pleading insanity wont work as you have just proved you are sane" (v. bad misquote)
Catch 22 was about bomber pilots in the second world war.
See any parallels ?
Please don't shoot me down in flames.
Claire, I more or less dropped off this site soon after the last update but I don't think that was the cause. Not the moderators who I have always found to be polite and reasonable. creepcringe. Just didn't find as many interesting threads.
Did I tell you the one about Theseus and his poor housekeeping ? (and how all 40 of them were still virgins ?) His dad went right over the top.
Bit of a mythconception there I think.

Fun and safety do not sit very comfortably with each other it appears. The forum has lost some of its chief wags, but I don't know why. I also agree with Claire, the forums seem harshly moderated these days and perhaps this puts people off having a bit of Friday fun - shame.
