Hi Guys
Seriously contemplating on enrolling on the above Course. Not too sure if I am making the right decision. Currently hold the Nebosh Construction Certificate with only 6 months experience through volunteering in a local Authority. As part of the entry requirement you have to have experience and hold the above level 3 qualification. Wondering if 6 months experience is enough? If I am making the wrong decision, what do you think would be the best way forward considering my present situation i.e. Qualification & Experience. The main reason why I want to do this course is basically to increase my chances of acquiring a job and also to boost my level of knowledge.
Just in case you would like to know my background, I have worked in a production/manufacturing environment for 6 years. Presently working as a courier.
Kind Regards
Kofi

Hi Kofi You say in your note you have 6 months experience.... to be honest that could mean 6 months in the role but very little hands on experience , or it could mean 6 months in role with a wealth of hands on experience..... 6 months can be very different from one person to another. You have to decide if you feel you can demonstrate a good 6 months. You dont want to be seen as a course hopper A lot of companies , or even course providers expect you to have consolidated what you have learned - use the skills in different settings etc etc Ensure that you feel you have gained enough to be able to move to the next course

Kofi,
I don't wish to be negative but if you are talking about the NEBOSH Diploma then I know a few people who have worked as H&S managers/officers/advisors for several years who have struggled to pass this diploma. If you are academically inclined then it may be easier but you still need to be able to relate to real working situations, so it depends on how much of your working day you are involved or have been involved with H&S. It is very difficult to advise you, all I can say is that H&S is not an easy option nor is it an academic subject, IMHO you need actual workplace experience to draw on.
Take Care

Hi Kofi have you considered the NVQ route, if you are doing the job and producing the evidence, be it 6 months or 6 years, full time or voluntary this route shows potential employers that you have knowledge and know how to apply it to the national standards. the diploma can come later if you wish. NVQ is available at Level 3 and level 4. good luck Paul

Hi
With the NVQs its the level 3 H&S or L5 Diploma in H&S. As of December last year, the Level 4 ceased.
