Is anyone able to point me in the direction of a good sample policy which sets out general roles and responsibilities to be followed by staff working in sheltered accommodation (for vulnerable adults) where a stay put policy is in place (i appreciate that the decision on whether to adopt such a policy and the specific actions to be taken should be based upon the findings of a suitable and sufficient risk assessment).

There is really no way anyone can give advice beyond much of what is written for fire duties and responsibilities in such as an office environment. It does depend so much on building layout, size, numbers of persons, mental/physical capabilities etc. We would end up writing these specifically for you if we are to try to help. There is some good guidance around for houses in multiple occupation and I am sure the Local Authority enforcement will be of assistance

James,

May be prudent to discuss with your local fire authority?

My wife works within older people services and I beleive the only use of such a policy was for the frail/elderly in residential care homes (manned) as a warden if he/she is actually present would not be of much assistance unless you are looking at a single PEEP?

Hi James,

I think you answered your own question as the decision to adopt stay put has to be linked to the assessment rather than a policy decision/guidance. The finding of an effective RA will include management information recommendations and then drive the type of staff response to an alarm situation. I think PAS 79 may help you with one aspect of this and BS 9999 is a good starting point with this in relation to occupancy.

We don't have a specific policy for this but we do have a Fire Action Plan which does give roles and responsibilities. Our plan has been ratified by Notts FRS and is used in conjunction with our Traffic Light system of PEEP's that we have for all our Service users.

If you think this may be of use, I am happy to share this wth you.
