Simply, at what point would you advise that employees are taken off the tools?
Thanks

We took advice from our occupational health provider, we/he was fortunate that we were able to find another position for him but he has since handed his notice in as well as a claim !!

What Stage had they reached? As a guide we take employees off the tools at Stage 2 Late. Hopefully after a period of respite they can return to work on the tools with their exposure closely monitored.

Last assessment was tier 4, they then advised he should come off the tools altogether until a tier 5 assessment could be arranged, we were in the process of doing this when he handed his notice in.

Bob, we would remove an individual from the tools upon the advice of an occupational health provider that has some specialist knowledge of HAVS.

You do not indicate how the employee has been diagnosed? If the employee has been diagnosed with HAVs I would take them off immediately pending full investigation by either your occupational health doctor or the employee's own consultant.
There is nothing to be gained by keeping them on the job where they are potentially getting greater exposure. If it comes back and things are not that bad they can go back, however if you keep them there and it does get work your exposure re litigation is also greater.
Err on the side of caution??
IMO you need to get your vibration risk assessments in line, so if there is an HSE investigation you have the infomration in place.
