Morning, looking for others experiences of site inductions.
Currently ours is a 55min DVD with 35 questions Multi choice , also used to capture contact details and training record. we are also adding a cGMP module( 40mins) about 75% of inductees will need this and Gowning module 1 hour( about 50% will need it) and an electrical awareness module 1 hour( electrical safety and arc flash awareness) about 50% will need this.
Top tier Seveso Site
What kind off induction do others provide to External service providers, contractors etc. cheers

I'm not one for long drawn out site inductions. They should focus on the site specifics and give a brief reminder about working safely. If certain operatives need additional specific health and safety awareness training, then that should be given in a training session provided by their employer.

I am involved is a top tier site as well and we do an induction which last roughly 40 mins, this is just a power point presentation and short questionaire afterwards, we have noticed that the longer the induction the less they will listen!! Do you be in the room when all these videos are been played!! we generally like to let them know how we can hurt them and how they can hurt us. Main topics would be PTW and fire/gas alarms, where to go and not to go, it works quiet well.
Remember most of these guys are well trained at what they do. We would normally have had all their training certs sent in advance to us.
It sounds like a lot of time (this is fine if thats all you need to be doing during the day) T

Part one is 10mins verbal re-enforcement plus paper work the DVD,And all get it,1140 last year .( other modules are lead by inductor and has been started in recent past.)
The other modules are as needed, and depend on where the people will be working rather than what they will be doing.
Other Pharma sites have 1/2 day,1 day and even 2 day inductions so our 1/2 day is not out side the normal. I am insisting on better facilities, comfort.tea break etc!!! We do it daily as needed, but would like to have it in place that it is twice a week only!
I think they do need to be lead by a sincere instructor( even if acting!) if its just treated like a paperwork exercise its worthless.
Many of the small incidents on site have been addressed via updating the induction.
Contractors may also have numerous SOP's to read as well- prior to arrival. Naturally would rather be doing the in the field advising , supervising, assisting, coaching, mentoring, but that's why I'm here for opinions
tks

I think you may find that a large amount of the "BIGGER" companies are going backwards with the lenght of inductions, one large site which i know is seveso has trimmed it to a 35min dvd for contractors coming on site. The dvd was made in the contractors workshop onsite and shows how to correctly use grinders, break flanges etc, etc. also tells where to go for PTW. This i hear is working very well as it used to be a 1 day induction!!
The other sites that still carry out 2 day inductions more than likely have someone employed to just look after contractors, so i am sure they will have no problems running these for 2 days!!
I still find a small presentation and a walk of the work area is a very good way to go, as i said earlier you need to show them where you can hurt them and vice-versa.
Again it really depends on your resources.
