All,

Just wondering, is it OK to have a self-closing mechanism on a fire/final exit from a building?

The door is used as an exit/entrance and the wind is catching the door causing damage to the hinges and door frame. I want to fit a door closer to it to help prevent this.

Personnel number are low - so low risk of a self closing door impeding pedestrian traffic if a fire was to occur.

Does anyone know if there is a requirement preventing me from doing this?

It's actually a good idea if it protects the door from damage, as long as the door is available for use when the premises are occupied.

Just watch out for the handy fire extinguisher being placed up against the door to hold it open in warm weather?

Trip hazard, fire fighting equipment not where it should be, door not closed in a fire unless someone attends to it....

There's also the security aspect of leaving your final exit door open, particularly if no-one's left inside to challenge intruders.

Agree with above. Provided the door can be used by everyone, no problem.
