Hi All, Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction of some information concerning the performance requirements of fixed fire hose reels (in accordance with the relevant BS), e.g. Hose length, minimum pressure, spray distance (and any other minumum standards which should be met). Any information would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, James

I would suggest, at the lack of answers, that your question may be better directed to your local Fire and Rescue service. They will/should have the knowledge about fixed hoses as they do/can form part of the overall Fire Safety Management Plan of a building. Good hunting.

James BS EN 671-1:2001 Fixed fire fighting systems. Hose systems. Hose reels with semi-rigid hose This gives the equirements and test methods for construction and performance for fire hose reel systems permanently connected to a water supply, for use by the occupants.

James, from a life safety point of view, why would you want them?

In my experience they are good for washing cars. Lots of problems associated with the use of hose reels by employees not fire fighters. Stick to extinguishers that have a limited use and let you know if the fire is manageable or not. If a premises require fixed hose reels the fire risk must be high enough to require sprinklers, then no need for hose reels.

At the risk of sounding a bore, the long term maintenance of these needs to be considered. Legionella, hose degredation, water pressures etc. Good point ChrisBurns - if you think hoses are required sprinklers may be your answer.
