Whilst this is not a H&S matter, I have been asked what, if any are there regarding data protection and using systems that can read a finger print etc. Also if a company wishes to introduce this do you have a right to refuse to give this personal information ?

You can find an adequate answer to these complex questions on the website of the Information Commissioner; broadly speaking, a person's 'right' to refuse depends on the purposes and validity of requests for personal information e.g. if I want to enter the building you manage, my 'right' to refuse to let you have relevant personal information is qualifided by what you need for safety and security in the building

We use finger and palm readers for security and do not have an issue with data protection. The only issue to bring to light would be its location for hygiene, if it is close to welfare, ablution facilities ensure there is a cleaning station for those that do not wash their hands.
