Dear All, We are planning a pretty big seminar for our H&S people at the organisation I work for and have made some great plans to creat a really engaging day. I'm now scratching my head over a closing presentation to the day, just 5 minutes or so to leave people with an enormous sense of well being (to quote Blur)! Would anybody have a brief presentation about the history of H&S, maybe from the industrial revolution forwards that shows the benefit of safe working over the years? Or anything really that could end a day on a bit of a high? I'm running out of time and although I know it's a bit of a cheek, would rather not do something from scratch! Naturally, if anyone does provide me with something, I'll make sure they are referenced as the author. Thanks in anticipation.

The HSE has a timeline of health & safety in the UK using the following link. Not sure if it would put me on a high at the end of a long day tho :) http://www.hse.gov.uk/ab...imeline/index.htm#simple

Why go for a 'high' - why not get them to think Most effective presentations I have come across, for making people think about the results of their [and others'] actions were by people affected by a fatality 5 minutes from a young widow, on what its like to tell your young child that Daddy won't ever be coming home again, is a great concentrator, and rather than leave on a confident high, your audience might go away thinking seriously about what they do

Alan Haynes, I think your idea has its place during the day but never as part of a closing session for what appears to be a motivational day. An upbeat close beats a morbid one every time. Wain..etc, I have nothing specific but maybe choose one or two of the positive H&S achievements made by your organisation, with a "congratulations, well done, now go and do more" message.

Thanks everyone. The day will involve an examonation of a fictitious accident that ultimately results is a fatality and will incorporate a lot of role play; so the folks will have quite a bit of "crikey, this could be serious". My intent is to send them away feeling like they're doing a good job, there is nothing to be frightened of so long as they follow policy, process etc. Guru's idea comes close but merit in the farm incidents too from Ken. Either way, looks like I'm gonna have to do something!
