Just wondering if anyone else had received an unsolicited e-mail from a marketing company with a "fruity" name, offering to sell them a "UK Verified Opt In Health and Safety Managers Database" for the bargain price of £329?

Apparently as a "Health and Safety Product/Service Supplier" this will let me contact key decision makers who are "receptive to direct mail".

I have already contacted the sender to take my e-mail address off their list! It doesn't say much for their "verified opt in" database that they have to spam people to advertise it. I did wonder how they got my e-mail address and so would be interested to hear from others who have received this bargain offer. I'd especially like to know if anyone who received it is on the OSHCR....

I bet have got our e-mail details from the Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register Heather because I have got an e-mail too. I feel that someone is jumping on the band wagon to make a fast Buck.

I also got an email from the 'Red Banana Marketing' company with the offer you refer to.

As they don't claim to work in compliance with relevant codes of conduct, any remedy appears to lie with the HSE and/or the company who take over the administration of the OSHCR from them.

In case you also wish to contact the HSE about the matter, Graham Crosby is the name of one of the HSE staff involved in managing the OSHCR; a smart and pleasant gentleman, judging by his manner on the HSE stand at the IOSH exhibition in ExCel last month.

I wonder if Lord Young is a director of Red Banana ;-)

I hope there is a lesson here for the IOSH & HSE folks who leapt on this bandwagon about the law of unintended consequences.

Thanks Kieran - I was indeed intending to talk to those who run OSHCR. I was waiting to see if anyone else who isn't on OSHCR had the same e-mail before going off on one though!

I am used to getting spam but the irony of a company that according to its website prides itself on its "opt in telephone verified databases" (and seem to make its living entirely from selling them on...) actually spamming people to sell its product is not lost on me!

So did anyone who isn't on OSHCR get this spam?

Today I received a marketing email from a training company offering me a 25% discount on their courses and plea to offer their courses to any organisation that I may deal with.

I am 100% certain that my details were harvested from the OSHCR as that is the only place I used the email that received this spam!

Had it as well.

But wait.... I had similar things before OSCR went live. Maybe it's LinkedIn, or my website. Or posting on public for...ummmm ... Bye!

I am NOT registered on the OSCR database/website and have NOT received this spam email.

Seems like another reason to stay off the OSCR register.

I am not registered either and have not received any spam e-mail as yet.

Looks highly likely that the register is the source of gaining the addresses.

Take Care

I always get some spam Jim and accept it as an unfortunate fact of life when I display my e-mail openly on the Internet. However it was the very "targetted" nature of the message with this one referring to me as a "Health and Safety Product/Service Supplier" that got me wondering about OSHCR.
