Hi,
We are an anchor tennant within a large shopping mall, we have a sub tenant restaurant within our area. A gas supply is in place for the restaurant. The pipe work that feeds the restaurant comes through the malls back of house areas. It is located in a service corridor and comes up through the floor and feeds along the wall (fixed in place) into the restaurant. I do not envisage any risk of collisions with the pipe work etc. However, the mall has requested that we look at boxing in the pipe work. I personally do not agree with this request as the risk is minimal and there have been no incidents/near hits relating to this since its installation 4 years ago.
Are there any specific legal requirements with regards to this? or some advise from any gas safety experts.
Thanks
Paul

Obviously we don't know the fine detail of the gas pipe installation, but there is an additional argument against boxing in the pipework., in that if it did develop a leak - the escaping gas could remain contained in the box-work and create a potentially explosive/flammable atmosphere.
If it is not boxed in, it should more easily disperse.
Assuming as you say, that the pipe is safe by position and not likely to get impacted by moving vehicles or damaged by people etc.
