Has anyone got any experience of when Lightning Protection should or shouldn't be used? I'm investigating whether our factory requires such a device to be installed and would appreciate any guidance.

Thanks

Hi. Do not know too much about this but got this:

The current standard BS EN 62305:2006 requires a detailed risk assessment to be carried out to determine what level of protection is required to your building.

Hope this helps

Yes.

I used this when undertaking assessments on a Top Tier COMAH site. I also used the mathematical modle in the standard BS EN 62305-2 to do them manualy :)

Enjoy.

As teh_boy above,
However, IMHO, you should have specialist help to undertake the analyis and design the system as it will need to interface with the electrical installation.
There are very few normal electrical contractors out there with the competence to undertake lightening protection.

Agreed. Also avoid any firm that tries to sell you a system using Early Streamer Emitters - a thoroughly discredited piece of technology that still crops up now and again.

Someone has already mentioned Furse - they would be my first and only choice for all things lightning related.
