Hi Everyone, I wonder if anyone could give me any advice on getting into the Middle East/Africa job markets for rotational work. Unfortunately I don't have a degree (only NEBOSH Env Dip, IEMA Cert, Gen Cert and Const Cert) and I think this may be the reason I'm not getting anywhere. I know my CV is working in the UK, I've applied for 23 positions since January and had 4 unsuccessful interviews plus another 3 in the next 2 weeks. Which I didn't think was bad considering the market. I also noticed that a lot of Middle East work requires the US OSHA quals, are these worth looking at. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Having had several years experience working in the Middle East, be rest assured that US qualifications are not a high priority. If anything, your NEBOSH quals etc. will be better recognised by prosepctive employers. One issue, positions overseas are generally filled on the typical "who you know" scenario, making it a difficult market to break into. However, my first position overseas was advertised in SHP, a direct advertisment by the company, so keep plugging away! I would try a search on the industry sectors you are involved and contact the companies direct with your CV. Environmental issues in the ME are a high priority on the bigger type projects. Good luck.

Hi In the ME I have come across a lot of positions being filled by degree holding people from the subcontinent, who are willing to work for a day rate lower than would compensate us for working away from home. That may be why some doors are closed? I know I could potentially have work for 20 people but at £100 a day and 50% of the wage bill has to be to to locals, it makes it difficult to manage successfully. Regards Linda

Linda, thanks for that valid point. It's a fact that the days of only Westerners seeking M.East work are over. Ezzeldin, I'm ex-military (marine mechanical systems maintenance), with a lot of focus on EH&S in the last few years.

William, I guess with the marine experience you are capable to work in offshore, did you try rigzone.com?

You might want to also try oilcareers.com and oilandgaspeople.com - a large number of the HS&E jobs on their at the moment are overseas and rotational. As per some of the other comments there are aspects of who you know but you never know. The other option to try is Prodrill ERS - www.prodrill-ers.com - the contact for dealing with HSE position there is Kasia. Best Wishes - Donna

Thanks Donna, haven't come across Prodrill before, I'll give them a go. Have a nice week-end.
