We're fortunate enough to be coming up to a couple of significant milestones soon, and I wonder whether anyone has any ideas on how to celebrate them. We already have a few ideas, but the area that I'm struggling with is an email/team brief communication saying "well done, but we can't rest on our laurels"...... Any ideas?
The business has decided to keep it as low-key as possible (ok - for those cynics - cheap!), and we have a small budget to cover celebrations for 600 people over two sites.
For those interested, the milestones are:- 1. 365 days since the last lost time injury (LTI); 1/2 million hours worked since last LTI on the manufacturing site (that has been COMAH, DSEAR, IPPC etc) and 1 million hours worked across both sites (incl international travel to Africa etc).
Cheers Pete

Why not do something that won't appear as 'cheap' as a low cost celebration.
If the company spent £15 a head it equates to roughly £10.000
As charitable donations are tax deductible - get the company to add on what they save and donate it to Charity.
I'd split the cash between the two work-sites and let the staff decide [on a first past the post basis - not that silly AV system] which charities to donate it to
Result - feelgood factor for company and workforce, and money well spent [and possibly some good publicity in the press]

Thanks for the charity idea.... what about words for a communication - this is the area that I'm really struggling with?

How about a barby on site for the employees on a Friday afternoon with an early finish such as 1500hrs?
Or
An open day for employee families and near neighbours - with tea and sandwitch tent?
But not - an Easter egg in a cup like we got some time back. The company at the time could not understand why their "superb" gifts were not being collected from HR

In addition, an in- person kind word from one of the top knobs in your company could go a long way too.
I know its not cash, vouchers or a day off but don't underestimate its value immediately.

Some great ideas here... which are going into the pot to see which ones to use.
However, what about the words for the top knobs? Anyone any ideas on some good motivational wording?

Rees, look at the wording in your H&S policy regading H&S aspirations and if appropriate tailor those. Board direction resulted in effective safety management and achievement of these milestones only by the full commitment of each employee... Challenge to continue to excel etc etc, MD/Chairman to continue to set personal example, be personally accountable and accept responsibility.
It's possible (likely?) most employees don't share your sense of achievement, and are merely thankful that they remain safe & healthy but would gratefully accept any rewards going.
