Hi everyone, just would like to get an idea on how am i going to measure the laser fumes generated by the laser printing machine. the laser prints on a PET(polyethylene terephthalate) material. we have an old laser fume extractor and unforunately the manual is no where to find. The odor of the fumes is noticeable even a meter away from the extraction unit. What would be the possible chemicals emmitted (as fumes ) during the printing process Thanks for the generous ideas. Best Regards, Bobby

Bobby, this has probably already been done and you can probably make other people's measurements your starting point. I suggest you contact TWI (just google TWI) the centre for materials as they have definitely done some fume measurements from polymers (I know this as I did the risk assessments for one of the projects!). Alternatively look in the scientific literature. Google 'Google Scholar' and use the Google Scholar site to search for research on thermal degradation of PET.
